Tom Ford to design for H&M?

Fashion designer Tom Ford

Is Tom Ford next in line to design a range for H&M?!

When we first heard about Jimmy Choo and Lanvin designing for the popular high street chain we could hardly believe it –so can we let ourselves believe that Tom Ford is about to jump on board the H&M gravy train?

Tom Ford Iris Silver

The rumour follows the unveiling of images for the hotly anticipated Tom Ford womenswear collection, which launched to critical acclaim at New York Fashion week in September. Since then, every fashion magazine in the world has been clamouring to get samples of what promises to be the biggest fashion highlight of 2011.

But perhaps even more exciting is Ford revealing details of his second film project. Following on from the success of his debut film 'A Single Man', which featured an Oscar nominated performance from Colin Firth, the fashion designer has begun work on a brand new project.

Whereas his first feature-length film was based on Christopher Isherwood novel of the same name, Ford announced that his second foray into film will be a comedy with a completely
original script. Further details are scarce but be rest assured that his directorial follow-up will be as easy on the eye as his first.

Cassius Eyewear - MIES

Cassius Eyewear is a brand that launched only in 2008 but has gained some traction already.  They are definitely subtle in design and shape.  I've seen a few pairs before, but MIES caught my eye.  The brand is big on classic shapes and likes to keep the logo low-key.  You won't see big fake diamonds on the sides of these frames.  The coloring and shape speaks for itself.

 Cassius Eyewear MIES

MIES is an aviator shaped frame that has some excellent detailing.  If you look closely (click pictures) you'll see the pattern built into the temples and bridge.  It's this attention to detail which makes MIES different from you standard boring aviator.

Cassius has many more interesting frames.  Check out their site for more.

Mischa Barton wears bizarre butterfly sunglasses

Mischa Barton wearing butterfly sunglasses

Oh Mischa! You may fall short in the clothing department but at least you have a way with sunglasses.

As the star of ‘The O.C,’ she was considered one of the most beautiful girls in television, covering countless magazine covers. But is now having to resort to some shady ways of getting attention.

Dior Bagatelle Brown with Beige Stripe

Dressed in a leopard print coat and a pink dress underneath an orange shirt, plus those bizarre butterfly shades, looked nothing short of ridiculous.

But while we disapprove of her seemingly endless line of eccentric and highly questionable outfits, when it comes to sunglasses, this girl has some seriously bold taste.

Butterfly sunglasses are everywhere this season and deliver instant wow-factor to any ensemble. This season we are all a flutter over Dior Bagatelle that has a subtle winged shape and employs the use of marbled acetate in a range of colours. Adding to the colour effect are gold or silver mirrored lenses in a cat-eye shape which is hugely popular in eyewear this season. The Dior signature logo appears on either temple in gold or silver letters that has become synonymous with all things chic. Lovely.

Which celeb has a shady secret?

Nicole Richie wearing House of Harlow sunglasses

Nicole Richie has made a name for herself as a fashion icon thanks to an appreciation for oversized sunglasses. But there is more to her penchant for sunglasses than an admiration for Audrey Hepburn.

The House of Harlow designer tells WWD, ‘When I wear sunglasses, it’s because I don’t wear makeup,’ she said. ‘I don’t know how to do makeup – it’s just not a part of my life…. Sometimes you need to put something on your face, and that’s why I tend to wear bigger frames. So I almost think of sunglasses as masks just to cover it up. And I think you can have fun with them.’

So she is only human after all.

If you are a fan of Nicole and her House of Harlow line, take note. The hotly anticipated House of Harlow sunglasses collection is coming to SGS and we can barely contain our excitement. In the meantime be sure to check out the latest and greatest collections by all of our other designer brands.

Far East Movement - Like a G6 Sunglasses

As contrived as this track is, the beat is a lot of fun.  I can't figure out whether the beat or the wonderfully sweet Asian ladies are what it getting this song all the play it is .  It's not the sunglasses.

Way to big  for your head

I've read around online that these sunglasses are made by Optic Remix.  I couldn't find any info on their website but this post is on their Twitter...
... so it's probably true.  As you can see in the Tweet these are only $10.

I like to think of myself as "Asian-conscious" but can anyone tell me what a G6 is?

Tom Ford to make another film

Fashion designer Tom Ford

Following the success of his directorial debut A Single Man (2009), Tom Ford has told the London Evening Standard that he is planning another film.

Tom Ford Maximillion Black

He confirmed he was already thinking about the follow up but remained mum on details. "I'm not telling you anything about it," he said.

His moving from fashion to film made perfect sense given his eye for detail. However many initially doubted his directing his directing abilities. But Ford has excellent taste in lead actors as well as style, with Julianne Moore (above) and Nicholas Hoult as lead character roles. Consequently A Single Man won a BAFTA and an Oscar nomination thanks to Firth and his emotional portrayal of a middle-aged college professor mourning the unexpected death of his lover.

With the launch of his women's wear collection and another film in the works, 2011 is shaping up to the year of Tom Ford.

Fresh Colab Sunglasses Releases

In a change of style from what I'm used to, Colab has released a number of new styles.  They are more conservatively designed than what we've previously looked at from Colab eyewear.

I don't know if I like what I'm seeing here.  Don't get me wrong - I like the sunglasses - but some of the crazy colored zaniness is gone.  For me, Colab is a very fun brand who's focus in on originality.  Maybe Colab is doing what they did before - trying something new - however new for Colab is to be more like everyone else.

Oliver Peoples Re-Release Vintage Styles

Oliver Peoples is re-realeasing some vintage styles from the 80's to capitalize on the huge vintage sunglasses craze that seems to never end.  I'm a fan of Oliver Peoples styles but I'm not as familiar with their vintage styles.  That should change with these releases.

Oliver Peoples Vintage Re-Release

I love the simple shape, translucent temples and most of all the red-tinted frames.  Three styles will be released and all of them should be strong.

Calvin Klein launching 3D glasses for the holiday season

3D Calvin Klein sunglasses

Gucci is not the only eyewear manufacturer wanting a slice of the 3D glasses market. Just days after announcing their premium 3D sunglasses, Calvin Klein has announced its own brand alternatives to the generic 3D glasses used in cinemas.

The sunglasses feature curved lens technology for clear vision and a photochromic lens for shades that can be worn in and outdoors. They will go on sale at select boutiques this December.

It is a smart move for both brands as 3D films are becoming increasingly popular given their high entertainment value. And a recent study by the Los Angeles-based International 3D Society in March 2010 shows opening weekend 3D ticket revenues in the US outpacing 2D ticket sales by margins of 2 to 1.

Will you be rocking the 3D trend this upcoming festive season?

Oakley to release sunglasses made of aerospace aluminium alloy

Oakley JURY sunglasses

Oakley is to release a new lifestyle frame (Oakley JURY) made of aerospace aluminium alloy.
Oakley faced great technical challenges in the design and production of the frame. Custom engineering was required to achieve the spring hinge mechanisms. For the optics of the dual-lens frame the company wanted the look of a continuous contour. This required the equivalent of cutting each lens set from single toric shields.

Brand CEO Colin Baden says, ‘Oakley strives to seamlessly blend the best of science and art, and this new sunglass raises the bar for both,’

‘We wanted JURY to be made of metal but still provide the comfort of a lightweight design. The grade of aluminum used by machine industry mills was nowhere near our targeted profile, so we turned to the aerospace industry. The chosen alloy was originally engineered to take the punishment that aircraft and space vehicles endure, and we shaped it with styling that brings a fresh, self-assured look. JURY is science wrapped in art, the hallmark of Oakley innovation,’

A special rendition of the frame will be available at Sunglasses Hut for a limited period of 90 days. Watch this space.
