| In autumn/winter 2007 we saw purple, violet and lilac in all shades imaginable grace the catwalks, it's come around full circle and we can now expect to see it bigger than ever this autumn/winter2008 going well into 2009 and potentially 2010! Purple is a combination of hot reds and cool blues and is a colour rarely seen in nature making people so drawn to it. The colours also associated with power, nobility and most importantly luxury! It's also considered a colour of royalty as many years ago the things required to dye cloth and silk purple were incredibly rare, therefore it was expensive and only royalty could afford to wear the colour. Purple is the favourite colour of Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria and singer Beyonce Knowles, another purple fan is Miss Paris Hilton. Sunglasses collections by designers Tiffany and Co, Fendi, Balenciaga, Chanel, Emporio Armani, Miu Miu, DVB, Oakley, Ray Ban, Diesel, Arnette and Nueu ALL currently feature purples and violet sunglasses and will be adding even more in their up and coming new collections!
The noble Balenciaga 0004 in violet (left) is a delight to look at, when looking at these sweet kooky sunglasses front on, you can see the slightly mirrored lenses which look fabulous standing out against the purple coloured opaque frame. The arms have a simple metal motif displaying the butterfly like Balenciaga logo. Our newly in and newly advertised Balenciaga 0015 in a warm violet solid frame scream femininity, romance and luxury! This frame has plenty of small detailing such as the tiny screws on the outer side of the lenses, and around the moderately sized motif displaying the Balenciaga logo in violet. The frame sports angular sides and a relatively thick top rim, these romantic sunglasses would make the perfect gift for Valentines Day 2009. The Miu Miu 13HS's in gloss black are 50s inspired, smart, power sunglasses that mean business, and are perfect for trend followers who want to make the purple and violet trend their business. The frame itself is a glossy black but the beautifully rounded lenses have a graduated violet tint, ideal for those who just want a hint of violet as part of their whole look. The glossy black frame gets thicker around the outer side of the lenses adding to the frames character, and the Miu Miu logo appears on the arms in silver. Our Miu Miu 65HSs (right) were made famous by actress and fashion princess Mischa Barton. These light weight sunglasses have violet graduated lenses accompanied by smaller pink and yellow lenses which are just for show as they can't be seen out of. The 65HSs unique selling point are all the different sections around the main lens, it truly is one of a kind, you could say it's been modelled on a butterfly. The frame itself is bronze in colour and the tips of the arms are covered in glittering plastic with Miu Miu embossed on the side. They're a pretty, colourful, distinctive frame and who knows when we'll next see something this exciting from Miu Miu, get them while you can!
DVB is the brand created by Victoria Beckham who is quickly becoming universally recognised as a fashion and style guru, this trend setter must have predicted purple was going to be huge these next couple of years, not only has she designed these simple, unisex, bang on trend sunglasses, the boxes and cases all her sunglasses come with are lined with purple! She may be one of the newer designers on the scene but she is very commendable. The DVB 10s in purple are a classic aviator style and completely and utterly embrace this forecasted trend as both the frame and graduated coloured lenses unlike many others are purple. The frame gleams rich colour and at the end of the arms is a cute little silver star. DVB 5s in dark purple are a rimless visor with the same gleaming purple frame and purple graduated lenses as the DVB 10s. The lenses have a long stretched out V design in the centre and a double white line design on the sunglasses top rim. There's not much to say about these shades as they most definitely speak for themselves. |
